Barn Dance for Our 50th Anniversary

We celebrated our 50th birthday on Saturday 25th October with a Barn Dance in full-on Wild Western style. Friends and family joined residents and co-workers, all dressed up in cowboy hats, plaid shirts and neckerchiefs, and we also had several native American Indians to add to the mix. Straw bales wrapped in red cloth made comfortable seats outside our Community Centre, aloe plants dotted around and plenty of music from the Party People created a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere.

Speeches from our Chairperson, Cordelia Robertson, and Sheila Camerer, ex MP and Deputy Minister of Justice,  reflected on 50 years of Camphill Village. Then followed an auction, facilitated by Charles Rudd Auctioneers and our fund-raising raffle with some great prizes up for grabs, from a night at Cape Town's President Hotel, to a hamper of wines from boutique wine estates, and a hamper of Camphill goodies from the cosmetics workshop, dairy and bakery.

Then the dancing began, with the floor cleared inside the community centre for some spirited line dancing. First we were taught the moves by Robert McMorrin of Dance Expressions, then all joined in until the floor was full of dancers doing all kinds of moves with plenty of free interpretation as the night went on.

A fabulous evening was enjoyed by everyone at Camphill.  Heartfelt thanks go to all those who contributed to the success of the evening, and who donated auction lots and raffle prizes. The raffle raised a grand total of R4380, so thanks to all who took part!
