Cape Philharmonic Play at Camphill

by James Sleigh   (2014-09-17)

Thank you so much to the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra for visiting Camphill to play for us on a sunny Monday afternoon this week. Seeing and hearing a full symphony orchestra playing in our community centre was amazing. We started with a guided tour of the four orchestra sections instrument by instrument, interspersed with short music pieces, leading on to a rousing selection of old and new classics, from Dvorak to the Pirates of the Caribbean. Everyone protested when the concert was nearly over, and several volunteers were given a chance to conduct the orchestra themselves, which they did with masterly aplomb!

Then, to end on a lively note, classical singers Heavenly Quartez joined the orchestra, and had everyone tapping their feet until they couldn’t keep still any longer and then there was some spirited dancing in the aisles.

Here is a lovely comment from one of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra members about the day:

“What a spectacularly peaceful and beautiful surrounding to work at today at Camphill Village amongst fields of Spring flowers everywhere! We brought music and joy to a special group of people today. This is what it is all about! If it didn’t move your innermost being to see the delight and enjoyment on our audiences faces today, I don’t know what would move you. What a privilege to be an 'instrument' to spread love and life like this!”

Thanks again to all of the orchestra, backstage crew and organisers who made this memorable concert happen!
