Camphill Market July

by James Sleigh   (2015-07-09)

Winter markets have a wonderful intimate and cosy atmosphere inside at our community centre. As the mist lifted on Sunday morning and the sun gradually peeked through, Camphill friends and family started arriving from 10am. By 11.30 the market was humming, with fresh organic produce and crusty loaves selling fast and live music from Steve Van keeping everyone entertained, including the youngest members of the family.

Kids enjoyed the great outdoors too, clambering on board for tractor rides around the farm, taking on an expedition to see the dairy herd with their new calves in the field next to the market and getting a feel for farm life and scrambling over the jungle gym in between times. The donkeys also got their fair share of attention.

Our new market gardener JP Dippenaar and his family were kept busy on our fresh produce stall, our plants were selling well outside and there were some fun new products at our cosmetics stall to smell, with candy bath salts in scents from liquorice to apple sherbet. Our shop down at the regular market place is open at our winter markets too, so those looking to stock up on our organic dairy products, yoghurt, milk, cheese and cream can either stroll down there past the field of cows grazing, or stop by in the car before they leave.

Thanks to everyone who puts so much energy into making our markets a success to our co-workers and young co-workers, who bake cakes for our coffee stall, run stalls and make sure everything is organised in time, to our residents who make crafts and products to sell, to our regular market traders who bring friendly smiles and energy and a variety of products to sell, to our friends and family for coming to the market and supporting us all, to Steve Van for entertaining us all with his music and to Donald Barnett of Mamma Gogo for arranging the series of artists who have been playing at our markets this year, and to Rene Maritz for recording the event with her camera thanks for letting us use your photos here! Looking forward to seeing you all again at our next market on Sunday 2nd August.
